Condoleeza Rice

Being a white southern male, I must agree that we need both a minority...and a female president. One that all races,sexes,religions,..and so on and so forth...could agree upon. It would be a unifying factor for our nation, and would qell some of the chatter around the woprld that we don't practice the equal rights that we preach. Condoleeza Rice has gained my admiration. I am not sure how much most people know about her, but she is quite an impressive lady. For the congressional panel...hindsight is 20/20. If, before 9/11, Bush (and her) had said " We need to bomb the hell out of Afghanistan, send thousands of troops over there, get rid of the Taliban, because we think they might crash some jumbo jets into the world trade center and pentagon and another in a field...he probably would have been impeached. Stop and think about it. The world was a different place then. Read up on Mrs Rice if you get a chance...that is enough for now...I haven't posted in awhile and am trying to decide if I am going to again or not...

I dunno.....

Rectal Themometers

When you have an "I Hate My Job" day, try this. On your way home
> > from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section
> > and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson and
> > Johnson.
> > Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your
> > doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not
> > be disturbed.
> > Change into very comfortable clothing and lie down on your bed.
> > Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place
> > it on the bedside table so that it will not become chipped
> > or broken.
> > Take out the literature and read it carefully. You will notice
> > that in small print there is a statement,
> > "Every rectal thermometer made by Johnson and Johnson is
> > personally tested."
> > Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times: "I am so glad
> > I do not work for quality control at Johnson and Johnson."
> > HAVE A NICE DAY AND REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A
JOB
> THAT
> > IS WORSE THAN YOURS!

This was one of those things people send you in your email. I thought I was funny as hell. Not sure who originally wrote it.

Ignorant?

Nothing irritates me more than ignorance and stupidity. In today's society
far too many people are complacent to continue on in their present
intellectual state without any desire or ambition to better themselves. Why?
How can one be content to not seek further intellectual development?

"Every man should live every second of every day, until he no longer casts a
shadow in the sun, with a question in his heart. For if he dies without a
question in his heart, what excuse is there for his continuance?"

             Frank Colby

An even more disturbing trend though is that modern businesses and
governments at times seem to support the ignorance of the masses. This is a
control issue that I will discuss later when I have the time.

The Earning of Trust

As I have mentioned before, trust is not something that is, or should be,
given away. It should be earned. When I meet someone I have no reason to
trust them. They have not demonstrated to me in any way that I should rely
on them for anything that might affect my well being. It is up to them to
earn this trust.

Trust is one of those curious things that is quite hard to truly obtain, but
can be obliterated in a matter of seconds. The problem with it is that once
it is gone, it is hard, nearly impossible to get back. Indeed this is why so
many relationships get in the break-up/ get back together cycle. Once the
trust is gone from the relationship, there is always doubt there.

One might say that I am implying that I don't trust a person when I meet
them. This is not the case either. Rather they haven't demonstrated to me
any capacity for trust or mistrust, therefore it is not an issue.

Gandhi said that "Blind faith is worse than no faith at all." This same
principle can be applied to trust. Far too many people walk into
relationships trusting a person that they hardly know with everything form
their deepest emotions to their very future. Far too many people get hurt.
Let trust be earned and you will not set yourself up to have your trust
broken.

That was quick and poorly written, but I trust that I you will understand.

Why We Kill Our Women

Once again the great state of South Carolina is first. I have just learned that statistically South Carolina is first in number of women killed by men (wives and girlfriends in particular). First. That leads me to wonder why?

Is it something in the water or air of our state that brings about this homicidal attitude?

Is it the way us proud southern men are raised? Is it just an underlying by product of our rebelious heritage? It could be a genetic disorder that exists in the gene pool of the Palmetto State.

Maybe it is the women that have the flaw. Maybe they do something to drive us to the limit, maybe some common personality flaw that most of them posses in this state, pushes the southern gentlemen to the extremes. Are they doing something that deserves for them to be butchered statewide?

Maybe it is coincidence.

I dunno.

No Regrets

I feel that one should never truly regret anything that you do. I, as I like
to think everyone does, believe that I always make the best decisions
possible at the time, given the information that I have. Yes in hindsight
one can always say I should have done this, or maybe something else
different. However at that point more information is available that, had you
had it earlier, would have made you make a different decision. So should you
regret that you made a bad decision because of information that you didn't
posses? No. Other decisions involve emotions. We often say we regret or are
sorry when our actions cause pain or grief to other people. If we knew this
ahead of time we should not regret that action because we accepted the other
persons misfortune as a consequence when we made the decision. If we did not
know it would cause the suffering to the other person then we have no reason
to regret it because, once again, the decision was made without us having
all of the information necessary.

If this makes absolutely no sense (which I have a vague feeling that it might not) then it is ok. I am sleepy and shall rest now.

(I will proof read it when I wake up)

Impact

I have always said that I want to make an impact on the lives of the people that I come into contact with. I want to make them see the world in a little different way. Hopefully better, but if nothing else at least different. I believe, for the most part, that I am successful with this. Recently I had a friend that I had not talked to in almost 8 years contact me, simply because she needed to talk. This person has been married for years, has 2 children and a completely different life from when we knew each other in high school. Yet when she was having problems, even after all of these years, she sought me out for advise. I must say this was quite flattering. I hope I can make this type of impact on everyone that comes to know me. I know I won’t, but that is my goal.

Real Quick on Good and Evil

One often hears the words “good” and “evil.” What do they mean though? Some would have us believe that the world is black and white, good and evil. This is not so. It is all a matter of perception. Take for example cannibalism. In our society it is one of the most horrendous crimes one could commit. While in a “headhunter” society it is perfectly acceptable, even encouraged. So is this entire society evil? The same can hold true for many other things. Morality is relative to the society and this dictates what is acceptable and what is not. It is necessary for the rules to be there n order for the society to function. However the rules of what is good and what is evil are not absolute and governed by some higher power, rather they are the product of the particular society/cultures development. Christian priests, scholars, monks, etc. have all been considered “evil” at some time and place in history. So whom are we calling evil now?

Reflections on Suicide

I usually don't discuss personal issues, but I will make an exception today. I just found out about an hour ago that a friend that I had worked with for 6 years killed himself last night. We fired him last month, and I played, I guess you would say, a crutial role in his termination. I have no respect for his actions. My sympathy is with his children (3) and family. Whatever grief made him feel the way he did has just been multiplied ten fold for those individuals. However I find , as I think most people do but don't admit it, that I have a morbid fascination with the details and circumstances concerning his final deed. How long had he been planning it? What was going through his ming in the final few moments? What was the last thing through his mind? IN the split second after the trigger was pulled and before he died, did he regret it? He is the second one in as many years.

What is done is done and I will dwell on it no more.

I must sleep now.

Purpose

I often wonder what it is that drives other people. For me the answer is simple. I want the world to be a little bit different, not necessarily better or worse, but different because I have lived. I want to be remembered. Not just 10 years or 5o years after I die. I want to truly be remembered. If I died tonight what would you say tomorrow, in ten years, in fifty years upon hearing my name? You knew me, you loved me, or you love me?

I don't want to be another namelesss face in the bowels of history.
